Five....four....three....two....

Updated: Sep 12, 2018

What have you done!?

Have you ever wondered if you've got what it takes to go it alone as self employed? Or sat on an idea, or two ideas, or three ideas for a thing and thought, "yeh, it would be really awesome to make that one day... One day." Have you ever been bored at work and then suddenly done something really stupid like hand in your resignation to try and start your own business? If you answered yes to to that last question, please send me an email and let me know how it's going. I would love to hear some insight from someone who has trod this path before. And if you answered yes to maybe one of the first two questions, maybe you might want to grab some popcorn, sit back and watch this train wreck where some one as talent-less and naive as I am, designs, builds, markets and sells a video game.

I'm about to follow through on the biggest decision of my life and start making games. Full time. I finish at my day job in three days and the reality is finally settling in The clock's started ticking, the race is on and the only three forces standing against me are time, money and procrastination. This is going to be the toughest challenge of my life, so I decided that I better start a dev blog and at least chronicle it somewhere so I can tell my grandchildren about this momentous occasion. Also pretty much every article I've read on indie game marketing tells you to do one of these soooooooooo...

Sorry, who are you anyway?

Hi! my name is Rob. I'm a Software Developer and when it comes to the games industry, this ain't my first rodeo.

Once upon a time I worked with this lovely lot.

I once worked in the AAA space as a developer at Microsoft for about four years, and my last major project was as a software test engineer embedded in Lionhead Studios. That's about all you need to know about me. Worked in games, left because reasons, worked in marketing, got sad, left marketing to work in games again. This time on my own terms.

So what are you making then?

Project Matilda (as I've labelled it for now) is a rogue-like turn based strategy game driven by deck building mechanics. For those that have played them, think Slay the Spire meets Into the Breach or Dominion meets Final Fantasy Tactics. You play as a young sorceress who must journey deep into the underworld to save her grandfather from a demon she accidentally released.

That's my elevator pitch. Sound cool? I hope so! I quit my job to make this shiz!

Thanks for making it this far! To wrap up my little introduction here's a piece of concept art I had an artist do for me of the the games main character. If you want to observe my progress going forward subscribe to my mailing list at the the bottom of the page and you will get weekly mini updates on Fridays.

Till next time!

ABOUT DOUBLE ONE

Hello! Thanks for visiting. Right now Double One is just a lone developer. Me. Who has thrown their lot in at work to make their own way into the world as an indie game developer. I've got an idea, some concept art, and a basic prototype of a thing I think is going to be fun. So watch this space and wish me luck!
