Shields up!

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things! I have totally re-written my business plan which was a great exercise in gaining a more solid idea of what Matilda is, and figure out if there is an appetite for it? What is my plan to bring it to market? Etc, etc.
Feature wise, I have added three new cards! An area of effect attack card and two shield cards to give the player a means of defending themselves.
Implementing area of effect meant I had to make several changes behind the scenes. I built a basic animation system for when card effects are being resolved. Then animation timing was a problem before because it meant when I played an attack card that destroyed an enemy for example, the card would be fully resolved and the enemy would die before the projectile could even reach it, and that doesn’t happen now!

The second and third new cards I put into the game are defensive cards that prevent the player from receiving damage. Putting up a shield only lasts one turn but it can prevent you from taking a certain amount of damage, e.g, if you had 3 shield points and an enemy did 5 damage, you would take 2 damage.

And finally some interesting news! Next week I’m planning on moving from the blog format to a vlog instead! I’ve bought a microphone and have been looking at different recording and video editing software so will have to see how that goes!
That’s all for this week. Short but sweet. See you soon!
Hi Rob, nice post. Good to see you back in the swing of things.
If you want tools that are easy to pick up, I can recommend OBS for recording and Camtasia for editing.
